Leadership West donated $1,250 to the Westmarc West Valley Youth Leadership Scholarship fund on Tuesday, February 24th, which helped the fund get to its goal of $25,000.00. The scholarship, designed by a team from Leadership West Class XIV last year, was established to reward West Valley students seeking to attend colleges or trade schools in the region. Students will be eligible if they live west of Interstate 17 and attend a college or trade school in that area.

The fund is being administered by the Arizona Community Foundation and will issue its first scholarship later this year. Scholarships will start with one at $1,250 and as the fund grows more scholarships for larger amounts will be issued. The Class XVI team developed the scholarship as a way to promote higher education in the West Valley and to hopefully enable those who graduate with college degrees or trade school certificates to remain in the region to serve as a future base for developing leaders. The check was a donation from proceeds from the annual Leadership West Golf Tournament held in October. The tournament funds various projects developed by Leadership West which has been training and developing leaders in the West Valley for 15 years.
